I've seen the Niton unit in action. It is a cool unit, but WAY out of
our price range at $46k US. To think that this electric hand drill
sized unit costs as much as a nice BMW!
We have tried the cotton swab products with limited success.
A paper trail looks like the best route. And how many copies of the
blank C of C did you want?... Sorry I'm a bit cynical.

A document trail should be sufficient at present. UK guidance suggests
you might wish to verify on a sample basis. However at present there is
no way of easily checking.
XRF is yet not up to the task, however the XRF companies are developing
new tools to help address the issue.
XRF can only detect surface and skin level materials so will never be
able to do a 100% check.
The homogeneous issue makes it all the more tricky in determining
compliance.
For now I would look at getting your paper audit trail in place and see
how practicable testing develops.

We've probably discussed this few times but a question was just raised
to me
recently about who would be ultimately responsible for ensuring the
components are ROHs compliant. If the supplier says the component is
ROHS
compliant and provides a compliance statement, would this be enough? Or
would we as CEMs need to double check stock that arrives to ensure that
it
complies. I have been given a broshure on a XRF Analyser to check this.
