RoHS and WEEE started out as the same Directive but separated early on

in their gestation.

RoHS is a "single market Directive" which is mandatory in all EU states

and must be implemented "as is" in the national law of each state. We

have looked upon this as the more troublesome chiefly of the removal of

lead in solder.

WEEE is an "environmental Directive" and describes only minimum

standards - so in fact WEEE is a lot more difficult to get to grips

with, in that it is quite possible for individual EU states to actually

go beyond what the Directive mandates.

Hence why its important to understand exactly the requirements for your

products and the implications for your distributors/responsible bodies

in each country - if only all the legislation was already published and

crystal clear. No problem though, you have got until this coming Sunday

to get everything in order before the deadline!
