David,

This link will explain the background and should, I hope, answer your questions:

http://rohs.exemptions.oeko.info/index.php?id=34

1) It appears to have originated solely from IBM in respect to their 'Z series' Main-frames.
2) A solution was to be made available in 2009.
3) The exemption was for machines built up to 2010 and their subsequent repair.
4) Note that it appears to be IBM specific.

Kind regards
Michael

Subject: [LF] RoHS Exemption 12 question

Hello,

I would like to know if the exemption 12 for RoHS is still valid. The information in the RoHS Recast indicate:

May be used in spare parts for EEE placed on
the market before 24 September 2010

So it does not specifically say that it is expired. If it was, I would have expected the comment to be like exemption 14:

Expired on 1 January 2011 and after that date
may be used in spare parts for EEE placed on
the market before 1 January 2011

So, what is confusing me is if this is a valid exemption why indicate that it can be used in spare parts?

Thanks for the clarification!

Best regards!

David
