As I have suggested to Gordon, those who claim they wish to recycle e-waste
cannot logically also advocate lead-free solder. 1) By replacing lead, they
will complicate recycling by replacing the standard alloy with a variety of
unknowns that are not identifiable by sight.  2) The infrastructure for
recycling lead and tin-lead solder either exists or may be developed from
existing practice and that is not true of most lead replacements. 3) There's
no gain since all lead in solder is so infinitessimally small compared to all
other contaminants.

The logical inconsistency should be pointed out to those who advocate both
recycling and lead-free solder.
