I read somewhere (in the Guiness Book of World Records?) about a woman
who had her appendix removed. She was a very heavy gal, and her appendix
weighed 5 lbs, if my memory serves me correctly. The notes said that she
ate a lot of game hens, pheasants, etc. and that most of the lead shot
ended up in her appendix.
Go ahead, Dewey.

Hi Dave,

Not detecting a 6mm (~1/4 inch) pellet!, she must not have chewed her
food very much.

I bit into a lead pellet about 2mm in diameter in a piece of corned beef
on St Patrick's day many years ago (back in my omnivore days ;-) and
felt fortunate that I did not break a tooth when I bit down.

I am surprised that it waited around for 10 years in her digestive
track and only when they saw it on x-ray did it suddenly pass. (I guess
the x-ray scared it out... ;-)

Normal digestion has ingested food (and anything else) passing through
the system in less than 24 hours.

Very best,
Joe
