You know,

On New Year's Eve I was discussing an incredibly close scenario with some of my friends. And all was based on the lower and lower quality requirements that we got to have here in North-America. The idea was that we want quantity and PRICE, instead of reliability and this is why Ford and GM came up with cheaper and cheaper solutions that influenced car reliability. At this point, somebody said: and now Toyota is getting as greedy and they will have to cut corners and they will pay the price. Well, this is what happened a few weeks down the road.

So I guess we should not discuss why Toyota screwed up, but why did we force them to do so. Actually we as consumers force all industries to sell us cheap, not reliable. And they are doing so.

Now that I emptied my heart, I must agree with Pete that this kind of discussions have no place in this forum. We shall discuss scientifically sound issues, not light suppositions!

callling attention to unfounded "possibiilities" will be damaging to any attempts
to educate on the dangers of lead free solder. Crying wolf will only destroy
credibility.

There is NO data, evidence, indications, etc. whatsoever that the Toyota
problems are in any way related to tin whiskers or lead free solder. All
implications of electronic failure are EMI and software related. Not even sure
why this is a topic of discussion on the LeadFree forum.
