Such a tool may not be necessary. At a recent Pb Free presenatation here
in Toronto Canada, Peter Biocca, of Kester solder was able to show those in
attendance a small disposable pen sized gadget that, when rubbed on a
solder joint, would turn pink if there was lead present, at a cost of aprox
$1.00US per. Perhaps this is the kit that Gaby mentions? However, I do
realize that such a tool has its limits . . .

Gaby,
What kit? I was speaking of an inductively coupled plasma optical emission
spectrometer, which costs close to $200K (US). And I also mentioned a
Dremel tool. Here in North America a Dremel tool is a well known brand of
a handheld multitool for grinding and sanding small objects (well usually
not as small as 20 mil leads!)

It was a theoretical question, and I hope too that we will not have to do
such absurd tests.
By the way- what is the sensitivity of the kits for lead checking?
Does it make sense to introduce them in the incoming inspection?
Gaby

original data for the material contents. I am now totally captive of my
suppliers (and their suppliers) to provide this information, since it is
physically impossible to get that data myself. (And I am NOT going to be
"Grinding or scraping" as Gaby mentioned, I hope factiously. And how would
I do that Gaby, with a Dremel tool?!) All I can do is perform an ICP-OES
analysis to get overall cadmium and lead content of my PCBA (or perhaps
individual components we suspect) as a validation of the data received from
my suppliers.
