Hi Ray,
What you are saying is correct—however, we do need to put things into 
perspective as well.
It is a fact, the human beings live longer than ever before, and perhaps 
dying of deceases that had not occurred in earlier history because people simply 
did not live long enough.
It is a fact, that these older people live much better and more active lives 
than previous generations [just consider your parents and grandparents are 
your age—mine were either dead or "old people" by the time their 65th birthday 
occurred].
It is a fact, that the medical and pharmacological [almost all industrial 
chemicals] sciences has kept many people alive that previously would have died 
much earlier [survival of the fittests is no longer at work].
It is a fact, that modern agriculture [through the use of industrial 
chemicals] is feeding [actually overfeeding in the developed world, the famines in 
parts of the world have mostly to do with distribution not shortages of food] 
many more people than ever before.
So, lets not throw out the baby with the bathwater.
