It has been used in other directives to indicate the item should not be
disposed of in the normal waste stream.

It is also the generally accepted symbol to denote this meaning and may
well have been rightly or well intentioned, but wrongly applied to other
products.

Chris

Denis,

Thanks for your explanation.

I notice that the wheelie bin symbol has been existing on the products
for a
period of time without any manufacture's date. Some products with this
symbol appeared earlier than 2003. Does it refer to other requirements
not
relating to WEEE?

Raymond

The Wheelie Bin symbol is used to notify users that the product is to be
taken to a recycler not thrown out in the trash. The symbol is a
requirement
for all products placed in the market after August 13th of 2005. As
Chris
has stated, the manufactured date is to be included.

My question is in regards to the product placed in the market between
August
13, 2005 and July 1, 2006. During this time, product is being
transitioned
from non-compliant to compliant product due to availability of
components
and materials that are RoHS compliant. Concern is the required
documentation for deconstruct of the transitional product.

Denis

What does "the product is WEEE" mean compared with the product without
wheelie bin symbol?

Does the product with wheelie bin symbol mean that the product complies
with
RoHS?

Your further explanation is appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

Raymond Li

The wheelie bin has absolutely nothing to do with the RoHS directive.

The wheelie bin symbol relates purely to the WEEE directive to indicate
the product is WEEE.

To facilitate the identification of "historic" WEEE (placed on market
pre 13 Aug 2005) and obligated new WEEE (placed from 13 Aug 2005), the
crossed out bin must be accompanied by the date of manufacture or to
signify post 13 Aug WEEE the x-bin with underscore may be used. See EN
50419.

Chris

Hello all,

I have another question that has arisen. I do believe I may have seen a
comment in the past regarding the possible requirement to have an
additional
mark added to the Wheelie Bin logo to identify product manufactured RoHS
compliant. I do believe this is to help recycling identify those items
manufactured prior to July 2006 that are not RoHS compliant.

Along with this, since deconstruct documentation is to be required or
optional at the request of the recycler (depending on member state),
does
one need to create a deconstruct for product that would be sold non RoHS
compliant between August 2005 and July 2006??
