Dear Werner, danke, Bernhard:

we are working with Guenter, that's what makes me feel so confident. I know
time is short, but thats the reason to put forward instead of hesitating. I
know this is all marketing - Gebhard, can you also give figures on current
and expected future tin and silver consumption?

I know we spoil more rain forest in Malaysia and Bolivia due to increased
open air tin mining, and I am afraid that we keep on mining lead because we
need the silver which comes as byproduct, and I know that we waste more
energy due to increased solder temperatures, believe me I dislike that this
is sold under a "green label"!

IMHO: Our chance now, however is that we may "revisit" "known" technologies:
managers (purchasing, design, process) become more aware of design for
manufacturing, design for reliability - it is realised now that despite the
fact that we solder electronics in automated systems for almost fifty years
problems still exist ;-) .

Best regards,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,
I am all for 'let's endeavour.' However, with a few exceptions, the work
that
I have seen reported and hear of being underway does not give me a 'warm
fuzzy' feeling; paricularly considering the critical time path. I wished
more of
these consortia would talk to people like Günter, Jean-Paul, or myself.

Regards,
Werner Engelmaier
