The lead is in the glass to stop harmful x-rays getting out the tube
(the funnel end) the front end is normally different glass - an optical
grade but still containing lead or oxides of..............

Chris

Do you know how much lead there is in LCD glass? i guess there is some
as
it stops the glass becoming brittle, but as by weight its obviously a
fraction of the overall weight of the CRT

But is not the lead in CRT's in the glass? One recycler in the UK has
special equipment to separate the CRT tube leaving the leaded glass in
one part which is returned to that famous lead glass company in Poland
and the optical glass part is returned for recycling at the optical
glass plant here in the UK..............

CRT's are predicted to be around for a while - ironically there will be
a growing demand in China as home IT and computing takes off
there.................... unless LCD screens nosedive in cost....

Chris

I agree, one significant point remains unsaid however. I would suspect
the vast majority of lead in electronics, and the lead which is
consistently mentioned as a problem, is the lead in CRTs, an allowed
use. It seems to me that even lead use in electronics is going to be
minimally effected as measured by "lead in electronics".
