There is a new standard developed by ASTM International Committee F40 available to assist companies with assessing their products/materials for compliance with substance restriction requirements. The new standard, ASTM F2577-06, Standard Guide for Assessment of Materials and Products for Declarable Substances, is meant to help engineers, quality personnel, chemists, purchasing agents and anyone else involved in product/materials specification, procurement, testing and/or compliance. It should help cut down on superfluous testing and give a reference to point to regarding requests for unnecessary information (such as PBDE concentration in wrought stainless steel). The new standard was made available today by ASTM and may be purchased from ASTM International at:
