Hello Werner and all Members of the Forum,
What has been your general experience with lead-free field failures?

I am asking this very informally, just curious about the history of field
failures thus far (i.e. I am not asking about specifics because of the sensitive
nature of those events).
To share my own limited experience during the last couple of years, I have
had three independent cases of lead-free solder joint failures, all in
automotive environments. To put things in perspective, I have encountered a similar
number of SnPb field failures (although under different conditions).

Thanks,
JP

Solder joint reliability is not an issue of workmanship, but of design and
material behavior--and we simply do not know enough about the creep-fatigue
behavior of LF-solders in actual operationng environments.
