Dear All,

Just want to confirm if I have correct understanding.

1) The "Black Bar" underneath the WEEE logo is for identification if hazardous chemical existed in product, such as attached Trash Can mark for batteries containing Pb. It can't be put with any text, code or mark which not related to hazardous chemicals.

2) The "Date of Manufacture" is for identification of equipment placed on the market after 13 August 2005.
According to the prEN 50419, the "Date of Manufacture" shall be in un-coded text in accordance with EN 28601 or other coded text, for which the code shall be made available for treatment facilities.
There is no doubt that the un-coded text in accordance with EN 28601 is easy for identification, but I assume that a manufacturer identifiable product S/N (Series Number) can satisfy the condition of "other coded text".

Thanks,

Anderson

Good morning all,

The reference to mark the date (in this case when it was put on the
market!!) refers I believe to to Spain. On page 91 of the January 2005
Perchards report it states for labeling the following:

Marking and labeling:

Equipment placed on the market after 13 August 2005 must be marked to show
the name of the
producer or the integrated system to which the producer belongs, together
with the date the
product was put on the market.

I have not read the original Spanish government legislation directly.

I will be moving companies in the next week, so expect my mails to start
coming from avanex.com

Kind regards to all,

John Burke

Please folks read the directives

Absolutely nowhere in either of these directives is any requirement to
mark the manufacture date.

The date marking requirement is to indicate that the product was placed
on the market after Aug 13, 2005, not that it was manufactured after
this date.

Chris,

Many thanks for your sharing the information.

What is the real benefit to put the wheelie bin symbol together with
manufacture date before 13 August, 2005? Should we bother to do it??

Regards,

Ray

You are truly better to get yourself a copy of EN28601 or BS7151 or
ISO8601 (all equivalent) as there is too much to explain here.

The basic standard format in the standard for calendar DATE is:

CCYYMMDD format where C=1000s&100s years, Y=10s&1s years, M=months,
D=days

So today 29 March 2005 in ISO speak is

20050329

Or in what is called extended format:
2005-03-29

There are other methods using year and week etc. but as said above you
really need to see the standard to fully understand it all.

After reading it you can't but feel the committee who devised the system
set out to re-invent the wheel.......... Now there is an idea, Brussels
should define "round things"..............

Regards,
Chris

Hi Ray Li, IPC LF Listservers,

Ray, I do not know the answer.
I do not have this 28601 EU standard in my possession.

I am hoping that someone else on this list does have it
to confirm, correct, or add to my note and help with
 your good question.

Hi Chris and Any IPC LF Listserver,

Well I found EN 28601 on a few sites BSI, AFNOR.

Since I don't have this document what does it specify for an
ISO i.e EU approved date for say today March 28, 2005.
Some guesses if one sticks with numbers and symbols.
