Phil,
WHERE on the part is the HT alloy?
There ARE exemptions for the HT alloy but, I would expect that the lead
is INSIDE the component. If that's the case, then, you shouldn't need
to worry about X-contamination.

Subject: [LF] RoHS exemptions containing lead

OK, here is today's $64 question.

We have a vendor stating his parts are as follows;

(RoHS Compliant, with exemptions:

The supplied product does contain relevant substance exempt under the
following criteria:

Lead (Pb) in high melting temperature type solders (i.e.) tin-lead
solder alloys containing more than 85% lead.)

If we have some of these parts and solder them into circuit boards in
our lead-free wave solder system, aren't we going to contaminate our
solder pot with lead?

Are these vendors off base by supplying components with "high temp"
solder to get around the RoHS requirements? In my opinion they are
taking the easy way out for them with no concern for their customers.

Has anybody else encountered this and what was your solution? I feel a
vendor change coming on.

Phil
