I've got this one (I told the full story June 22 on this mailing
list)
Burn-In-Board IC sockets for temperatures 200 degree Celsius and
higher over 5000 to 10000 hours. Sockets are made with Pfinodal from
Ametek. This alloy consists of 15% Ni, 8 % Sn, 77 % Cu. If you solder
these sockets with a solder containing more than 10 % Sn, the tin
diffuses during the first 20 hours @ 200 degree Celsius in the
Pfinodal. The Pfinodal becomes brittle and the sockets fall off the
board.
Ametek recommends urgently for high temperature applications
solders like 10 % Sn, 88 % Pb, 2 % Ag or other solders with less Sn.
If there is no exemption, then I cannot supply this customer any more
with these boards and I have no idea about any replacement without
lead which would not increase the costs with factor 10 (ceramic
boards, stainless steel sockets, welded, not soldered, and all custom
made...:-( )
