China RoHS covers EIP not toys.......... but yes your sentiment is

understood........ but then the West says don't do such and such and

then blatantly does otherwise......... dumping electronic waste in the

East or ship breaking in India spring to mind...........

Regards,

Chris

China Rohs prevents the importation of these lead paint toys into China

if I'm not mistaken.

Why is it ok to export them?

China needs to be held accountable.

I guess I look at things the same way we try to do at here work; we try

to hold each person accountable for their own work. For example, there

have been times that an assembly has made it to final inspection and it

was then discovered that a wrong component had been loaded. The last

thing we want to hear from an operator is; "Don't get so upset at me, QA

missed it at the first article inspection..." which is absolutely the

wrong way to look at things around here. You say something like that

more than just once and you'll be looking for a job.

Sure Mattel and other companies go to china for manufacturing, but it is

the CHINESE who built it. They need to be held accountable for their

work...

I agree, Mattel and their accounting team are responsible to their

stockholders for profits BUT in shaving those supplier margins they are

ALSO responsible for safety and compliance of the goods to the design

requirement.

Turning around and blaming the Chinese is a cop out - they are fully

responsible for their supply chain.

Hey,

China is trying to become the ultimate mercantile society, with

everything that this means. I don't want to clear them, but importers

like Mattel should know better, aren't they responsible for what THEY

put on the market?

It's not only the Chinese that become rich from their booming economy.

Just read this in the news during lunch today;

China bans lead paint on US toy exports

WASHINGTON - China signed an agreement Tuesday to prohibit the use of

lead paint on toys exported to the United States.

Unveiled at the second joint U.S-China summit on consumer product

safety, the pact was negotiated in the wake of the recalls of millions

of playthings decorated with paint containing the toxic metal.

China has faced stiff pressure this year after an array of its exports,

including toys, pet food ingredients, fish and jewelry, have been

recalled over health and safety concerns.

In the pact, Beijing also pledged to step up inspections of its exports

and take other steps to ensure that those products meet U.S. standards,

said Nancy Nord, acting head of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety

Commission. That will include joint efforts by the two countries to

increase understanding of those standards among manufacturers and

exporters.

The absence of such an understanding allowed paint suppliers to provide

lead paint to companies making toys sold by Mattel Inc. and other

companies, said Chuanzhong Wei, vice minister of China's General

Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. Lead

paint has been banned on toys made in the U.S. since 1978...

Give me a 'friggen break!! China's Vice Minister is trying to say that

his country didn't know that we don't want lead paint on our childrens

toys? What's next; "Oh sorry United States, we didn't know that you

didn't want radioactive contamination in the baby formula that we export

to you...".

This is one of those things that make you go hmmmmm...
