Hello Cliff,

The definition chosen may be overly broad. Some folks consider toasters and
electrical shavers to be electrical devices... ;-)

The JISSO International Council uses a similar definition to what you have
presented but it is reserved for Level 1 items which are referred to as "
Individual Electronic Elements" The definition is as follows:

"Bare die or discrete components (resistor, capacitor, diode, transistor,
laser), with metallization or termination ready to be mounted This can be an IC,
or discrete electrical, optical or MEMS element. Individual elements cannot be
further reduced without destroying their stated function."

Because all of the individual items included in Level 1 consist of many
different materials, they cannot be considered truly homogenous (IMHO)...   unless,
of course, the second Oxford definition is used and applied to, say a pile of
resistors, for example.
