Cheryl,

We had a problem, but I think is was a combination of issues (for PTH boards).

Our existing spec used a 60° angle.
Our existing method of break off was to use pliers... Oh so sixties style.
We were specifying Isola 410 material and experiencing delamination at the edge.

Addition of a tool consisting of a long slot screwed to the bench has greatly improved the break off process for IS402 and IS410.
We were in the process of converting to 30°, but the vendor hadn't gotten the new documents yet.

I have not heard any complaints since these changes.

Phil

Subject: [LF] RoHS Laminates and V-Score/Singulation Changes

Has anyone made changes to their V-Scores, depanelization or singulation
methods or specifications due to differences in RoHS laminates?

We recently experienced edge delamination issues with a specific RoHS
laminate. The edges on more than 95% of the PCBs severely delaminated
after a v-scored tab was removed. After further study, it turned out that
the laminate itself was the real problem. But, as we modified V-score
depth, we could get some very small improvements.

In a similar vein, we have also been measuring strain and its effect on
RoHS PCBs. There are definite issues under BGAs but we also looking at the
effect on components located near tabs/break-offs.

Thanks, Cheryl Tulkoff
