Just two questions:
Do I understand that medical, industrial control, and defense products are
exempted from EU lead free directives
because there may be some question about lead free solder reliability and
about the reliability of components and systems
subjected to lead free solder reflow temperature stresses?

If so, does this imply that reliability in other electronic equipment does
not matter, or matter as much as removing this grave threat to
life-- lead in solder?

Here's a third question-- when will that little kid say, "This emperor has
no clothes."?

Subject: Re: [LF] European Directives on Lead Free

Hi

<---One snip from Paul's note that made me think to add the -->
<--- a note added below--->

<Manufacturers of medical devices and monitoring and control instruments,
<though exempt at present, will be considered for inclusion at that time.
<It may be prudent for organisations which fall into these categories to
<begin examining the effects these directives will have on their
<manufacturing operations. It is widely recognised that deferred or
<exempt categories may be indirectly affected by this legislation as
<component manufacturers convert production lines to 'green'. That only
< leaves the age old problem of looming obsolescence to deal with!

Think about Medical Products that are consumer related,
or consumer throw-aways like the new hearing aid products
and some products related to female health/well-being. All
of these could easily fall under these Directives.
