This was on the base of the Federal Law of the Treatment of Electric
and Electronic devices (VReg) which came in place on 14th of January
1998. Up to now it was valid for all electrical and electronic
appliances. Because of the RoHS there will be a list according to the
RoHS. However, as difference to the RoHS our VReg does not only state a
take back obligation for the producer but also a bring back obligation
for the user. All professional EEE (Industrial, office etc.) is taken
back directly by SWICO, the Swiss professional organisation of office
automation, or by RUAG a E-Waste recycling firm which used to recycle
waste military equipment. Both authorised by the Swiss Government to
recycle E-waste.
The 58% you mention are only consumer electronics. The total of the
reclaimed EEE is well above 70%.
The type of recovery is shreddering and reclaiming of the raw
materials. The not reclaimable materials are burned in high temperature
furnaces.

Hi IPC LF Listservers,

Just wondering,

According to what I have read via the DTI links and DTI sponsored
studies,
Switzerland has had in place an EEE recovery recyling program for some
time.

If I am to believe numbers and reports 58% recovery via the retail
chain in
2002.

Does anyone have a link or knowledge about how this became part of
their
recyling programs and their type of product recovery aims for EEE?

Physically large appliances, ,?
