Thanks Bob!

Would the update be available online as unless the SMTA conference is held
"down-under" I don't think I can attend :(

But, if you had to choose the best surface finish for press-fit considering
shelf life and coplanarity as influencing parameters, which one would you
choose?

Rgds
Dennis.

Dennis:
We have done some work on press-fit that Dave mentioned. It can be
found on our website under the heading of press-fit terminations at:
http://www.tycoelectronics.com/environment/leadfree/techdata.stm

We will also be presenting an update to this work at the SMTA conference
this fall. We have found that ENIG, OSP, Immersion Ag, Immersion Sn,
Immersion Au and of course HASL (tin lead) work well with tin, tin-lead
and gold plated components. Generally, hole size do not need to be
changed. We have not yet completed our detailed studies on lead free
HASL. The Rohm and Haas work has been encouraging but the info I have
seen has been limited.

Cheers,

Bob Hilty, Tyco Electronics

Subject: [LF] Press-fit terminations

Hi fellow technetters

From previous discussions on this topic, OSP and Im-Sn are recommended
as the PCB finish.

This info was in 2004. Have there been any updates since for the
preferred PCB finish for Pressfit applications? Has anyone used or
trialed Lead Free HASL for press-fit connectors? Any issues?

Regards
Dennis.
