John - I sent attached docs to RoHSUSA for John Burke to post there so

that all could access - you should receive the attachments here on this

email but the forum copy will have them stripped. The Norway 17 doc is

available on the WTO site - I sent a message several days ago saying how

to access it.

Regards,

Chris

January 1, 2008 is the date for the proposed Norwegian legislation to go

into effect. Try one of these two WHO links.

Brian,

Well stated, without fanning the flames of conspiracy.

Not just TBBPA but also BPA. FR4 epoxies are made from a mix of

typically 50-60% BPA and the rest TBBPA. These are theoretically reacted

with epichlorohydrin (or similar) in the prepolymer stage and this is

then crosslinked with DICY or other crosslinkers plus additives.

Theoretically, no free BPA or TBBPA remains in the finished product, but

the reactions are never 100% stoichiometric, especially where the epoxy

interfaces at a boundary. There will always be a small amount of free

BPA/TBBPA available at the surface of an epoxy resin. The question

therefore lies in the tolerable percentage that will be permissible. If

it is literally a total ban, then no consumer electronics containing FR4

or with a flame-retardant polycarbonate cover (ie, just about

everything) will be permitted.
