Hey all,

having a bout with a supplier. Their product that we utilize had the
components used tested by their supplier. "Mix All" is common when testing
individual components not the "Homogeneous material". Also, found over limit
concentration of lead in one component tested "mix all". Product was stated
to be RoHS compliant!

Yikes!

Denis

Dave,

We have a web page with a good amount of information and analysis of the
proposed legislation including an English translation. Visit
http://www.designchainassociates.com/chinarohs.html . This could be helpful
in developing your one pager...

I'm pretty amazed that only two US companies have issued comments on this -
it's quite worthy of commentary and we exported something like $8.7B worth
of electronics to China in 2004 according to AeA, so it's not like nobody
will be affected. I know that we were one of them and I believe I know the
other company. It's not clear to me just what the impact these "comments"
have on governments but if we don't participate then it's going to be hard
to justify the bellyaching - the industry obviously needs to get much better
at lobbying and working proactively with governments in this area. In any
case, I'll be speaking with Mr. Huang next week to clarify some questions we
had.

By the way, Japan just issued legislation that appears to require disclosure
of certain substances we all know and love as of 1 July 2006 ... not
regulation, mind you, just disclosure. And only across a few categories of
consumer products. We should have a web page with more info up shortly.

Michael Kirschner

Hi Again John, Gordon, IPC LF Listservers,

I have a meeting coming up on 01Dec05 that kind of involves this global
electronic assembly stuff.

Is there a one pager that I can give out that is explanatory yet action
oriented considering 04 Dec is 3 days later.

Yours in Engineering, Dave

<There is still time to submit an official comment to China on the
proposed regulations. They extended the comment period to December
4. Check out the Notify US website run by NIST or the www.buyusa.gov
website run by the DOC mission to the EU. NIST Notify US is the
official contact point for US comments. So far, we only have two
comments from the entire US. Here is word from the US Embassy in Beijing.
<
"MII Director Huang Jianzhong confirmed that MII has extended the
comment period for "China RoHS" from November 27 to December 4. MII
notified WTO-TBT, according to Huang, but did not make any changes to
their MII web site.">
