I've noticed some postings that have used a lower-case o to stand for a
degree sign (since the computer keyboard doesn't have a key for a degree
sign). At least for a PC (I don't know about a Mac), you can get a degree
sign by holding down the Alt key and on the number keypad typing the number
248. This is what you get: °. (I've also found it useful to type 241 to get
the ± sign.)
