No body is being forced to go LF.

Good morning Pratap,

You are right in a sense. We could also all turn our backs and move on into
different industries or lines of work. Still the EU legislation looms large
over individuals and companies within the EU who wish the whole fiasco would
have never begun before the judgement of science was given and fully
considered. (It appears, that in the eyes of the EU Parliament, the accused was
presumed guilty and no witnesses or jury were required.)

Thus the ultimate insult to many in industry is that the EU legislation is
causing those who have considered fully the impact of this ill-conceived piece
of legislation, to follow a path which good scientific and environmental
principles indicate is folly.

Be assured that I truly appreciate and admire the efforts of those fine
engineers who have made great efforts to do their best in this bad situation.
They are among heroes of the EU's "war" on lead in electronic solder. But the
war on lead in solder is not a just war. Lead in electronic solder had done no
harm to anyone.

With the perspective of a veteran of war, I see many of these heroes as
medics on the field whose job it is to patch up the wounded. But those wounded
who would have been just fine if the opening shots had not been heedlessly
fired.

It is a sad situation that will not get better with time. It has been said
that "War is diplomacy by other means". It is, in effect, an attempt to get
one's way without having to apply thought or reason.

What is ultimately required is that the EU parliament finds its collective
intellectual integrity along with the courage to act responsibly and then
rescind the ban on lead in electronic solder.

Intellectually honest politics? It is a refreshing thought. What are the
odds?

And so it goes....

Kind regards,
Joe
