Bev, that sounds like the definition of divorce.

Here is the document that was circulating earlier, which has a pretty
good definition..

Dave,
How about "impossible to meaningful separate in a mechanical fashion".

Subject: Re: [LF] definition of Homogeneous

Hi IPC LF Listservers,

Does anyone have an idea of what the EU should use as a label other than
homogeneous material??

Here is a copy of my previous reply in case anyone want to "do a think"
particularly a successful think. "do a think" comes from Albert E=mc

<================ My recent note on this topic of homogeneous =====>
<Homogeneous to me is a wrong term and should not be used by the EU.
What
term they should use I still can't label. I wish I could..
<
<We and the EU do need another term that is more descriptive.
<
<Basically they are looking to prevent the intentional addition of
prohibited substances like lead, other, from becoming a sub part, sub-
material of some greater composite.
<
<Let's say I have glass cloth which is a part of E/G prepreg. As
composed
and as drawn the glass itself must comply with the EU MCV's. The Epoxy
Mixture in the treating towers as a separate material must also comply.
<
<Now when I bring this stuff together the interface between the glass
and
the epoxy might violate the EU limits and their might be regions within
the
material that violate the EU's limits yet that is OK.
<
<To get more complex than this is the EU's example of the many materials
that are inside of a semiconductor package.>

P.S. I thought about material sub-composite addition, yet I am at a loss
for a good easy "catchy term" for a materials' term that equally
describes
something like Ni plating or SnAgCu dipping, or all the ways that
individual reasonably homogeneous materials are added in layers to form
a
composite or structure. If someone has a term in another language that
is
OK as long as it is decriptive. We can always
English/Americanize/Romanize
another language.
