Hi Dave

The UK and the Netherlands are most certainly in the EU - the UK currently holds the Presidency of the EU.

The fine on the UK for failing to comply with WEEE is likely to be quite substantial.

See another example of fines on environmental directive non-compliance;
"Even without the periodic penalty - which France could avoid if it now acts smartly - the ˆ20m lump sum awarded against it is by far the largest fine levied on an EU state. Greece was fined ˆ20,000 per day and eventually settled the bill at ˆ5.4m. Following its condemnation, Spain has so far had to pay some ˆ3.3m"

You are right that Greece has implemented WEEE (but has not implemented the amendment). See original story;

Hi Rick, Kay, Chris, IPC LF Listservers,

Rick thanks for your link. I wonder how much the UK will have to pay?

Particularly since like the Netherlands they aren't "IN" the EU until they keep moving forward. From my understanding only a treaty connects them. The penalties are connected to the full implementation of the EU so everything is kind of a cat and mouse game.

I always wonder about these articles since I have read one place that Greece already was a good little Zeus and transposed the EU legislation.

Yours in Engineering, Dave
