Hi Scott,

In addition to helping reduce oxidation in general, the main advantage
of using nitrogen in either wave or reflow processes is that it helps
promote wetting of lead free solder. Because lead free solders do not
wet as well as SnPb solder, it is often necessary to increase the peak
reflow or solder pot temperatures. Nitrogen may allow you to decrease
this peak temperature, thereby providing a cost saving that may offset
the cost of using N2.
