Colleagues,

The IPC task group responsible for maintaining the IPC-6012, Qualification and Performance Specification for Rigid Printed Boards, is embarking on a Revision B effort for the popular board performance document. As a user of IPC-6012, your input is crucial in assuring that future revisions of the IPC-6012 accurately cover requirements for qualification and performance of rigid boards in today's industry.

Please take a few moments to indicate to us where you feel IPC-6012 can be enhanced. We ask that you provide these comments to us by Friday, March 15, 2002 in the form of an e-mail addressed to [log in to unmask] If you are not the user of this document within your organization we ask that you please forward this message to the appropriate individual.

1) IPC-6012 currently sits at the Revision A level with Amendment 1 incorporated from July 2000. In what existing areas of the document do you feel there is a need for significant modification, and why?

For example:
Is the term "user supplier agreement" used too often, and do you prefer firmer requirements?
Should there be clearer outlined steps on how to qualify to IPC-6012?
Is the use of tables clear?
Is there a need for more illustrations?

2) Keeping in mind that other IPC board performance specifications exist, i.e., for flexible printed boards (IPC-6013), HDI boards (IPC-6016) and high speed/high frequency (IPC-6018), what are the requirements that you feel are not being addressed in the current rigid board document? Why is it important that these requirements be incorporated? Is multiple performance specification maintenance a problem at your company?

Best Regards,

John Perry
