Brian,

You can not argue with this bunch. They have one track mind and facts are
only the statements they put forth themselves based on their own theories.

It seems there are people in US who have made up their mind and it is -
'Their way or High way'. These people think they do nothing wrong, others
should do as they say, nobody should disagree with them. These people and
groups twist the facts to suit their agenda, be it environmental, social,
economical or political. Their slogans are - Mission accomplished (most of
the time prematurely), Stay the Course (even when it leads to disaster) and
'Things are getting Better' (when people are dying every day). You very well
know that in engineering 100 % is rarely achieved. If an engineer has to
wait for 100% certainty, no work will be started or finished. There are
limitations to all experiments, observations, theories and postulates. As
engineers we all try to minimize risk for a given application and proceed.
Good folks (engineers and scientists), learn as they go along and correct
mistakes along the way. These 'can not do any thing wrong' groups do not
admit mistakes and when others do not follow their dictum, they raise the
specter of National Security and Economical collapse. They are very skillful
at using scare tactics. Many such examples exist in American political
system. Same tactics are now being used to bend the engineering, economical,
educational and social systems to their preferred ways.

Have a 99.9999% good day.

Chuck, You are wrong. It is not necessary to be 100% sure that climate change (not global warming) is caused by human activities because a) we KNOW that fossil fuel pollution is a main cause of much human misery (the WHO estimates 3,000,000 deaths p.a. from energy-related causes and possibly 10 x as much illness requiring treatment). Cutting fossil fuel combustion will alleviate much of this and the economic purse strings of health care world wide. b) combatting climate change will create jobs and boost the economy in both developed and developing countries. Your economic disaster will not happen, unless we do nothing.
