Dennis,
Having gone from "buried" to "embedded," we find that there are at least
two different meanings to the term "embedded."
What Karen is discussing in the pcb007 interview is the embedding of
discrete passive and active components and the associated problems with
placement and interconnectivity that do not relate to the embedded
additive or subtractive planar technologies (such as embedded capacitors
or resistors made with C-Ply or OhmegaPly).
Clearly their are problems with the supporting infrastructure that are
common to both types of embedded technologies. This is the need for
better simulation, design and test software, equipment and services.
However, the problems facing the embedding of discrete passive and
active components should not slow down the rest of us who operate in a
market familiar with our technology.
