Thanks for showing us the article. IPDs are interesting but they are
still SMT devices. In comparison to embedded passives, IPD issues are
the same as discrete devices, the signals have to be routed to the
surface and the inductance and inductive reactance is a problem for high
frequency applications. Cost comparisons between embedded passives and
IPDs are difficult because unlike arrays and networks of a single
functionality (e.g. a resistor array), IPDs often include other
functionalities such as diodes. In the final analysis, total system cost
and performance will determine which technology will be used for which
applications.
