Cherie,

Interestingly the coupons aren't imprinted with any statement limiting their
use specifically to "design related" {anything}. Even if that were the case
this conference is certainly advertised as the join conference of the IPC
Printed Circuits Expo and Designers Council Summit and should have
qualified. What Nick told me by email on Feb. 14th is this:

"I was just informed by Nancy {Feaster} that you will not be able to use the
coupons for Expo because all Expo registration is handled by an outside
company, CDS."

Well, I don't consider this acceptable. I signed up and authorized payment
by my Visa card otherwise I would have missed the 10% early registration
discount but still object.

If IPC hires an outside company to handle this they should instruct them to
accept all coupons issued to members which specifically state they can be
used for this purpose. Just because a third party is managing the
registration shouldn't remove the obligation to honor discount coupons
issued to its paid members. Though I'm not technically a member of the IPC
I am of the Designers Council and this IS a join conference in every sense
of the word.

My 5 cents worth. ;-)

Subject: RE: [DC] DC coupons not excepted for conference
Date: Thu, 20 Feb 2003 18:20:01 -0800

Jim,

This is a complaint I've had from many of our members who have tried to use
their coupons at an IPC workshop or conference. The only way some people
have been able to use them is to make an issue out of it. I don't like
that. I've asked for clarification and received this answer:

"In a nutshell, the $50 voucher can be used toward pretty much anything from
IPC (I'm not aware of anything that it cannot be applied towards) - with the
exception of shipping and handling costs. However, member discounts are
limited to a select group of design-related documents and workshops."

While on the surface it seems clear, it's not. It's that last line that
bothers me. I haven't had a problem with documents, but what constitutes
"...design-related...workshops." I would think that the Expo and Designers
Summits would be at the least! It would also be useful if the workshops and
summits that are listed on the DC web page (for designers) would accept the
$50 coupon. If they don't, then say so up front.

My 2cents,

Hello fellow DC members,

Does anyone else feel cheated that your IPC Designers Council $50 coupon
isn't being accepted by the IPC for the IPC Expo & IPC Designers Summit?

It suggests, to me at least, that the coupons I've been saving for such an
official IPC conference are absolutely useless, even though they clearly
state that they are "Good towards the purchase of IPC standards,
publications, videos, CDs, workshops, and conferences".
