Hi Arlene,
The IPC-2221, section 12 is where you'll find most of the current
descriptions. However, they are currently being reviewed and a new standard is in
the pipeline to be released soon. I'm not sure when it's scheduled to be
released, but thought is was going to be by the end of the year. Gary
Ferrari has been working with that committee and may be able to give us an
update. Meanwhile, go ahead and spec out the IPC-2221 for now.

Kelly,
I'm going to let the board house design the coupons as they've already
done the work and have them on file. I was just looking for the standard to
point to in my fab note, if there is one, that defines the coupon.
Something like: Manufacturer to incorporate test coupon per IPC-???? Etc.
Thank you for your input.
Arlene

Oh -- also, forgot to mention IPC-TM-650 (Test Methods) as a good read on
measuring characteristic impedance, but my (old) copy has nothing to say
about design of test patterns. -- K

Arlene -- I know that I'm way out of date with this spec, but I'm seeing
test coupon design rules in the old IPC-2141 spec (1996) Physics hasn't
changed much since then, but maybe someone out here can point us to newer
information. Most importantly, you will need to design a pattern that will
match the probes of the equipment that will be doing the testing, with lines
that have the same geometry as the one's you want to control in your design.
If you are not doing your own testing with your own equipment, you might
check with your board supplier who has a TDR machine and is most likely
already putting test patterns on the outside edges of your controlled impedance
design's panels.
Hope this helps -- Kelly

Hi All,
Can someone tell me if there is an IPC standard that calls out the
requirements for an Impedance Test Coupon.
Thanks,
