Greetings from the San Diego Chapter!

The San Diego Chapter of the IPC Designers Council and Palomar College have
teamed up to promote PCB Design Education in the San Diego area.

Anne Reiss from Palomar College ( http://www.palomar.edu/ )and Leslie Gomez,
our chapter president, and I spent the last two days at the Del Mar
Electronics Show ( http://www.vts.com/delmar/index.html ) talking to many
interested Electronics professionals from San Diego/Orange County/Los
Angeles areas.... There was great interest in the Mentor HEP program (Higher
Education Program) at Palomar and also we got to speak with PCB designers
and Engineering managers that had no idea there was an IPC Designers Council
and they took literature and membership forms back to their offices. We
hardly had a minute between conversations with attendees that came by our
booths. We saw many members and non-members at the show, some we have not
seen for many years...It was a terrific show and it was great too see those
of you who attended!

The IPC specification catalogs are all gone,(we had a large stack of them
along with other handouts sent to us from Nick Ban and Gary Ferrari..
THANKS!!) they went the first day... We really did get a good turnout and
hopefully there will be more new members and a very full PCB Design class
this fall at Palomar college. I think this will definitely become an annual
event for the college and our San Diego Chapter.

WINNER!!! - Michael Felkins, PCB Designer at Quantum Magnetics Systems, 7740
Kenamar Court, San Diego, CA 92121-2425, www.qm.com, has won the IPC 2221
and 2222 Specs from a random drawing. (He was not a DC member either!)
Thanks to Gary Ferrari and Nick Ban for providing the specs as a prize
giveaway at the show. There were 31 entrants that participated in the
contest by dropping a business card in the bowl.

Also if you are not aware of the Mentor HEP program...
http://www.mentor.com/partners/hep/na1intro.html , Mentor is providing
software and support to Colleges for a greatly reduced rate to help promote
the advanced education of students in degree programs toward getting their
careers in Electronics and PCB design. Mentor is currently helping Palomar
College (San Marcos, CA) in their PCB Design and Electronics departments
with Mentor Expedition software and training to develop PCB design courses
using their software. Without their support we would not be able to offer
this high end tool at the college. Thanks go to Glenn Wells, Gary Ferrari,
Cheri Litson, Debbie Nygard, Anne Reiss of Palomar College, Paul Fleming of
Mentor Graphics and the rest of you out there who are helping for making
this all possible. We couldn't do it without you...
