Greg,
Gerber is just a text file. You can open the file in wordpad or notepad.
Launch one of the programs and then open the .art file. If you see text
like G04 or D10 or G75, (numbers vary) it is a gerber file.

Different pcb tools create different file extensions. .ger .art
You can use a gerber viewer too. GCPrevue is easy yo use.

I had a request for help in using IPC's free CAF test coupon files.
The files are easy to get off the IPC home page but they are in a
filename.art format.
Being completely ignorant on the topic I'll naively ask: Does anyone know
how to do a (hopefully) easy conversion of a .art file to a gerber file?
