Hey Bill,
Thanks for the reply.

You have tweaked some fond memories for me.
I have been doing PCB Design for over 30 years.
For 13 years I did freelance work out of my home office. I had cancer
and stopped for a couple of years while going through treatment
(applase, please, I am a 15 year survivor).
When I was ready to begin working again, my light table, x-acto knife,
and matte tape had been replaced with CAD software.
I went to work for Halliburton to learn "tools".

While there, I ran into the son of a designer from my past, JoAnn
Yeakley. JoAnn was just helping Max Thorson to start up the Houston
Chapter of the IPC Designer Council and that was my introduction.

I became involved and began a quest of knowledge and it has been a
wonderful opportunity. (thank you, IPC)

At that time, I did not know there was a trade magazine for PCB Design
(thank you, UP Media) or a Conference, or available IPC Standards.

Back then, the training through IPC was targeted toward fabrication and,
while I need to know that, it was not my main focus.

So, here I am today, all these years later, confused by the concept that
two fine entities would hesitate to work together to support our
industry and the fine folks involved in it.
Think....about the old image of tearing a single sheet of paper is easy,
tearing a phone book is impossible.

IPC, please don't take your toys and go home in a huff. Let us see you
at the next Design Conference.

By the way, I took a very close look at the venue at APEX and, since the
two are so close together in timing, I had to choose one or the other.
APEX still looked heavy on the Fab and Assy side and I needed a full
week of classes in the design area. Please keep working on this.

I, the little back-home designer, need you both. Really!

I think they have had some financial issues of late... They are trying
to
influence the designers to come to the IPC events rather than attend 2
separate events...

The DC executive committee has indicated the need to have a booth at PCB
WEST and EAST... So far it has met by the IPC management with a cold
reception.

Believe me we are working on it, however we are only an advisory body of
volunteer designers and IPC holds the purse strings.

I hope we can convince them to return to the PCB West and East
conferences
soon. That's where I found out about the DC and would never have even
known
there was a Designers Council if they had not set up a booth there back
in
2000. We should be at both events every year.

Thanks for the comment Barbara, stay tuned for further developments...

Subject: [TN] Where was the IPC for the Design Conference?

I attended the PCB Design Conference West last week and cruised the Show
Floor looking for the IPC Booth.

Alas, it was not there.

I miss it and was wanting to purchase some Specs, but could not. Past
years, the IPC has had a Presense at any Design Conference that I have
attended.

What happened? Don't they love us any more?
