What do they expect to be happening to it?
Is it going in a R/C banana for King Kong?

What forces are going to be applied to the components to require such drastic measures
as to turn it to double sided just for connection strength.

If there is an issue then surely slightly bigger pads on the components where the issue is will suffice?

Unless of course, the PTH parts are to be on the same side of the board as the copper?
In which case I can understand the issue as they can then be knocked off.
But if they are going through to copper on the opposite side it should not be a problem.

Matthew Lamkin.
