We have run into an issue with a discontinued surface mount IC package
type. It is an 84 pin PLCC style package. However, the device is still
offered in a 20 mil pitch 100 pin QFP style package. We have considered
revising the current pwb but it does not lend itself to the minor
revisions that would enable the 100 pin QFP to be used (too many vias
and traces routed to and under the component). We are looking for a way
(short of a total re-layout of the pwb) that would allow the 100 pin QFP
to be used. Does anyone know of a (custom?) interposer or adapter (and
its manufacturer) that could be used to allow use of the substitute QFP?
Has anyone ever had success making their own BGA style adapter? (out of
laminate material, the bottom having an array that would match a revised
the land pattern on the pwb, the top of which would have the 100 pin QFP
land pattern, with the top and bottom sides connected by vias).

One other consideration: The design is analog and there are 5
components per pwb.

Regards,

Phil Dam
