Well, I hate to be a killjoy, but I haven't really heard of too many
design changes that have to be done, except maybe to change the "HASL"
note on the fab dwg. MAYBE slight pad geometry adjustments? Has anyone
else heard much in the way of design-related change for Lead-Free?

Also, (I am just learning about this too, but) I think the "9mm per year"
was a growth RATE, not a final length. I just stumbled upon this EIA
document that says the length are more in the 100um range for LENGTH

Here's the link:

http://www.ec-central.org/pdf/Engineering/bulletins/EIA-ECA-CB19_13AUG04.pdf

Lastly, there is almost TOO MUCH material out there, for example here is
the best site I have found:

http://www.dbicorporation.com/rohsbib.htm

but what I am looking for is a good well-written article that really
explains the "other side of the coin". Can anyone point me to a
authoritative article by a knowledable author on why this initiative is
NOT reasonable? I've heard vague references to the fact that the result of
WEEE and RoHS will actually do more damage to our civilization than LEAD
will, but I can't find anything good about that subject. Lookin fer
linx...

onward thru the fog,

Jack

Thanks for the link Joe,

If what Joe says is true, RoHS is to engineers and designers what Y2K
was to programmers! Think of all the designs, past, recent and present
that will have to be reviewed... full employment for all.

I take back my suggestion that IPC-DC change its mission to: supporting
laid off designers.
