Yes, most times it is literally sitting down together with the engineer and standard expert and going over the most critical points.
These are mainly for intrinsic safety creepage distances (probably about 20-40% of the circuit). The less critical circuitry is left totally in my hands.

At the early stages we have used web net meetings etc. (multi-national company) but this is mainly used to look at the product overall and not to look just at the PCB.

As for file sharing we have an electronic document kind of database accessible worldwide. Some users have more rights than others in regards to access.

Yes, I have checklists and we have a (somewhat) formal design review process.

But what tools are being used out there?

When your 2nd (or 3rd) set of eyes look over your work, are they literally over your shoulder going net-by-net at the PCB or CAM files?
Are they looking at 1:1 or x:1 paper checkplots or tranparencies?
Anybody booking a conference space and using a projector?
If Dept. heads are signing off, what are they using to scrutinize the work?
What about file sharing and IM-ing, anybody attempting that?

I hope this better conveys what I was striving for.
