In the reading I have done, configuration books and IPC they say, "Each
document has its own revision assignment and level".
I have implemented here that minor changes to the documents only receive a
revision with a number. Our people were getting confused it the assembly
drawing was REV B but the card fab was rev A. By appending a number to the
letter all concerning docs a card have the same alpha but may have a
different suffix number. The revision block must be filled out. Our old
archive system didn't allow this since it could only handle one character
in the revision area. Now everything is stored electronically and the name
can be long. Things have been much easier to track.

The initial board fab is
Dwg MNSN-EL-04-1001 Rev - with artwork MNSN-EL-04-3001 Rev -
No changes to either of these documents

The assembly drawing is (document does not reference the rev of BOM)
MNSN-EL-04-0001 r2

The BOM
MNSN-EL-04-4001-001 r5 (5 changes to the document) (document does not
reference rev of assembly drawing)

When a card fab is revised everything goes to Rev A then if the assembly
drawing or BOM have changes beyond that they would start at A1 and go up
consecutively until another card fab change.

Good Luck!
