We do it all the time. No major problems. It is a little bit bothersome
when you have to go off grid to connect to or rout around metric parts.
Be careful if you create metric parts in a non-metric database.
Cumulative round-off error can bite you.

Thanks,

We have a design using component footprints constructed of both inch and
metric dimensions and would like to know what problems this could cause
during routing.

And is this mixture a "normal" occurrence with many designs today?

Thanks.
