Just my two cents worth. I will agree that Protel is a nice package and easy to use. While using it, I suggest that you SAVE OFTEN. I don't agree that it is as powerful as P-CAD. I have used P-CAD since V1.2 and currently use the latest, V8.6. Accel Technologies has the rights to P-CAD DOS and will continue to support and sell it until March, 1998. They have a new Windows package out, Accel EDA, which is to be their replacement for P-CAD. P-CAD users were expecting a Windows version of P-CAD but what they got was TangoPRO enhanced with the ability to import P-CAD files along with a few improvements from P-CAD. I, personally, do not recommend AEDA. For a low end package, I would suggest Protel; for mid-range, the new OrCAD Windows 95/NT suite; and for high-end, Cadence Allegro. Just my opinions. ;-) You may want to subscribe to the P-CAD users mail forum at [log in to unmask] and/or the EDA users mail forum at [log in to unmask] To subscribe, just send a message, without subject or signature, to [log in to unmask] and in the body of the message just put "subscribe pcadusers" or "subscribe eda_users" (without the quotes) as appropriate. You can also visit Accel's web site at http://www.acceltech.com.

Subject: Re: Software Question...

     Doug,
I have experience with PCAD and Protel. I love Protel. It did
everything PCAD does with far less the hassle. I am currently working
with PCAD 8.5 (DOS-based), but I do understand there is a windows
version of PCAD out. I could probably list 10 very good reasons
Protel is the better software. I'm running into all kinds of querks
that PCAD has that I find very dangerous, because they could cause
     errors.
