Ref IPC SM782 section 8.2

The component width (w) is very close to the recommended pad width (x) on
chip caps sizes 0402 thru 1210, but for chip caps 1210, 1812 and 1825 the
component width is considerably wider than the recommended pads. Is this a
misprint or is there some logic I'm missing here. On the chip resistors the
body width and pads width are close for all sizes. Is this because the caps
are metalized all the way around the part? It really looks like Goofy or
Mickey designed this board. Response from Dieter would be appreciated also.

Reviewing the tolerance analysis confirms that it is not a misprint, but what
is the reason?

thanks
