Not into rigid builds often but I thought .056 clad plus bond ply plus foil/surface finish was a good 4 layer .062 and 2 .028 were for 6 layers.

Bill,

Every fabricator will have their own mix of 'standard' stocked materials and
thus will likely have their own internal 'standard' for a build when none is
specified in the fabrication details but from shop to shop there is no
standard.

I need to ask the designers and particularly the manufacturers a
question. 

IS there a standard construction for a 4 layer FR4 board? 
What thickness core and what prepreg arrangement would be used if I
asked for a IPC 4101/26 material to be used without specifying the
stackup thicknesses?
