Yea I read that article posted there about the Millstone Dominion Nuclear
Reactor shutdown on April 17th 2005.due to Tin Whisker growth on a circuit
card in the controls for the station. It looks like NASA has been tracking
Tin whisker growth for the last 60 years or so... they should have a lot of
data on the subject... They mentioned the 9mm a year growth in the article.
That's about a 1/3 of an inch which would short most IC's with normal gull
wing pins... even DIPs would short...
And they still don't know what the mechanism is that causes it... only that
Tin/lead alloyed together reduces it greatly.

I think the world-record whisker growth was 9mm per YEAR!
