Andy,

I would definitely like to see more about the DC affairs, progress and
thinking since the DC executive board is representing all of us.

Since most chapters, I assume, have their own websites, it would be
reasonable to include comments on this list without having to post all of
the details. That way if people wanted to know more about the comments they
could go to the specific chapter website.

In a nutshell, I think it generally is a good idea to share information.

Mike makes a great point here. Thanks for taking the time to write, Mike.

So let me do a straw poll:

How many of the subscribers to this Forum would like to see more detail
about Designers Council affairs, progress and thinking?

How many would like to see Chapter reports circulated on this Forum?

Include your own opinions if you would like to add to this discussion.

If there's enough groundswell, I'll talk to the Exec and see how we can
implement it, then make a recommendation to Jean Hebeisen and Christ
Poulsen.

Barbara is right on: One of the things that I've always felt distinguishes
designers is that they've never let hurdles like no company money or a lack
of respect get in the way. They are tenacious, capital T, and god bless them
for it.

Dieter and I used to come back from the design shows shaking our heads in
admiration at how starved the designers were for information -- often from
within their own companies -- and how grateful they were to get it.

I think what we're hearing is that designers want more information, not
less. Yes, occasionally all heck will break loose as people read and respond
to what the EB is doing. But that's how you encourage involvement. Cutting
people off (which I know is not what Andy or the EB has in mind, by the way,
so save your hate mail :-)) from the info flow only serves to disengage them
from the process, and ultimately they will usually give up.

As a start, might I suggest posting the minutes of the Designers Council
executive board meeting and like meetings to this listserv.

Also, since publication of the Route seems to be, well, erratic, I would
suggest pre-empting that and posting chapter reports direct to this
listserv.

All DC members should subscribe to this listserv, and would have a good
reason to, assuming some of this info is regularly circulated here.

Mike
