Dear Hope Lariosa,

I remember when I used to send my design to a fabricator, he'd send back the
film. I would spend a day looking over the film checking for problems before
handing it back to him to make the boards.

Nowdays I send out the Gerbers, and sometimes my board house faxes me a plot
where they've circled where they found problems, but more often I don't hear
anything until the board shows up on my desk.

I haven't seen ``film'' (clear plastic transparencies with black lines where the
copper should go) in over 2 years.

I've heard rumours of machines that take a Gerber file and rasterize it directly
onto the copper-clad panels, without ever making any film.
